Koinonia with Kathy Litton

It’s a new year and even though January has almost come to an end, Koinonia is just beginning.

Join us Tuesday, January 31st

at 7pm in Heritage Hall.

We’ll hear from Kathy Litton

the NAMB Director of Pastor’s Wives.

Kathy has walked through many seasons of life as a woman in ministry. You will love her warm spirit, learn from her stirring testimony, and be eager to hear about her new job in helping women become leaders in the field.

Kathy Ferguson Litton understands how life contains the unexpected. Her own journey as a pastor’s wife, mother of three and life in the suburbs of Denver was interrupted when she became a widow. Instantly, her life became unfamiliar. Yet God has brought her to an unexpected journey through corporate life, vocational ministry and then another season of being a pastor’s wife.

She is married to Dr. Ed Litton who is pastor at First Baptist North Mobile in Alabama. She presently serves at the North American Mission Board as National Director of Ministry to Pastor’s Wives.

If you have a question for Kathy about women in ministry, being a woman in ministry, or anything else related, share your question on Koinonia’s Facebook page or comment on this post.

We’ll get your questions to Kathy and come on Tuesday to hear them answered.

Please join us Tuesday, January 31st 7-9 p.m. in Heritage Hall for fellowship and donuts.

Koinonia Christmas

All women of Southern and Boyce – faculty, students, and wives of students,

Koinonia would like to invite you to our upcoming event…

Koinonia Christmas

November 1st at 7:00pm in Heritage Hall

Come and be encouraged to take the Christmas season as a chance to spread the name of Christ.

We will have tables dedicated to “Parties with Purpose,” where women will learn how to welcome non-Christians to their homes for a Christmas party that easily assists the host to explain the gospel message.

We are also offering several tables to discuss evangelism strategies and possible difficulties that the women may encounter sharing the goon news this season.

Connect with women on campus, be mentored by women with wisdom and experience, and grow in your understanding and courage to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

… and if that wasn’t enough, don’t miss out on our Christmas cookie buffet and hot chocolate bar!

Fall Festival: A Walk through Narnia

The Fall Festival is a highlight for students and families at Southern, as a mini-carnival of sorts with free food and fun, but this year’s festival sounds like it’ll be quite the adventure.

Enter the lawn through the Honeycutt building and walk through the wardrobe to experience Narnia on our very own campus. There will be free food and fun for all, including a concert at 6:30pm and the epic battle for Narnia at approximately 8:00pm.

It’s this Friday, September 9th from 6pm to 10pm. I wouldn’t miss it!

Building up to the festival, the Fall Festival Movie Series is a free film series this week. (see Inside Southern for more details)

Don’t forget the Great Commission 5K and Pancake Breakfast is also this Saturday!

Koinonia’s Inaugural Event

Journey of a Woman:

Conversations with Mrs. Mohler

If you happened by Heritage Hall Tuesday evening, you might have been surprised by the gathering of women. Every table was full and a row of chairs was added lining the back wall for Koinonia’s inaugural event.

We were thrilled to see so many women come out and join us!

The night started off with Shelby Vafinis, the board president, sharing the vision for Koinonia. It exists to connect the women of the Southern community in hopes of building lifelong relationships and is open to all women–students, student wives, faculty, faculty wives, and staff. We hope that Tuesday was just the first step in building those relationships.

Kelli Martin, the small group committee chair, shared a few different ways you can get involved with Koinonia. There’s a variety of groups meeting each month for coffee or brunch, to exercise, weekly to study the Bible, book club, or gather in prayer and serve others around Louisville. You are sure to find a group that will provide you with an opportunity to connect, mentor, and grow alongside.

The highlight of the evening was Mrs. Mohler sharing her testimony. She encouraged us that “no one ever has a boring testimony.” Mrs. Mohler lit up the stage as she shared with us the journey that the Lord is guiding her through.

Mrs. Mohler shared how she came to know the Lord as a young girl. Watching Mrs. Mohler share about her conversion was beautiful, her passion and devotion to the Lord was clear for all in the room. She went on to talk about the home she grew up in, and even shared about her love for American cars (since she hails from near the Motor City).

She went on to share, in a question/answer form (with herself, which was quite humorous), how she met Dr. Mohler, they married, their journey to seminary, and how he came to be president at Southern. The Mohler’s journey was not without much hardship, but the Lord was faithful throughout the hard seasons.

Towards the end of her talk, Mrs. Mohler begins to speak on a more personal level about marriage, parenting, and what life in an empty nest is like. She encouraged the ladies in attendance to be faithful in the callings that God has placed in our lives. We must prioritize family, protect our marriage, and live for the Lord for all to see.

After being encouraged by the words of Mrs. Mohler, we graciously accepted her invitation for dessert and caravaned to the President’s home. The house was quickly overflowing with women who gathered together over dessert and blessed each other with their conversation.

A quick look around the room, you would have seen women smiling, laughing, and talking together. Women were connecting with each other, just as Koinonia hopes to continue to do over the course of this upcoming year.

If you came on Tuesday night, thank you so much for joining us, hearing the vision, and gathering with the women of Southern and Boyce College. If you weren’t able to make it, we missed you and hope you’ll get involved in one of our Love Links groups and join us for Koinonia Christmas on November 1st at 7 pm in Heritage Hall.
